In the world of direct mail marketing, personalization can be the key to standing out in a crowded mailbox or showing your client that you care. One of the powerful tools available for enhancing personalization in direct mail campaigns is SendJim’s macro feature. Macros can transform a generic message into a tailored communication, helping you engage more effectively with your audience. In this article, we’ll explore what SendJim macros are, how they work, and how you can use them to personalize your SendJim mailings.

What Are SendJim Macros?

SendJim macros are placeholders that you can include in your mail pieces. When a mailing is sent out, these macros are automatically replaced with specific, personalized information relevant to each recipient. Essentially, macros allow you to automate the customization of your messages, ensuring each recipient gets a unique piece of communication without requiring manual input for each mailer.

For example, a macro could be used to insert the recipient’s name, address, or any other relevant detail into your mailing. This not only makes your communication feel more personal but also increases its relevance and effectiveness.

Macros available for Postcards, Letters, & 4x4 Cards for gifts:

  • {{RecipientFirstName}} & {{RecipientLastName}}: This places your recipient's name as part of the design if your recipient's name is in your My Addresses section.

    • If you're sending this card through Neighbor Mailing, Radius Bomb, or to someone without a name in your "My Addresses," the name macro will default to "Current" "Resident" for Current Resident.

  • {{RecipientStreetAddress}}, {{RecipientCity}}, {{RecipientState}} & {{RecipientPostalCode}}: These macros can be used to place your recipient's address elements as part of the design outside of the postal area

  • {{CustomerStreetName}}: This macro will place your Client's street name on the card instead of the recipient's address. This macro is great for Neighbor Mailings!

Macros available for Handwritten Cards & Greeting Cards

  • {Bid.FirstName} {Bid.LastName}: Just like the recipient name macros for the postcards, letters, and cards for gifts, you can also place the first and/or last name of your recipient in your design copy, if your recipient's name is in your My Addresses section.

    • Just like for the postcard, letter, and card macro, if you're sending this card through Neighbor Mailing, Radius Bomb, or to someone without a name in your "My Addresses," the name macro will default to "Current" "Resident" for Current Resident

  • {Bid.Address}: This macro will place your recipient's address inside the card as part of the design copy.

  • {Bid.City}, {Bid.State}, & {Bid.PostalCode}: This macro will place your recipient's city, state, and/or postal code inside the card as part of the design copy.

Final Notes:

  • Macros are a great way to personalize your Thank You cards, offers, and quote follow-ups without having to spend the extra time personalizing each mailing piece one-by-one.

  • When using macros or editing any part of your designs, always preview your mailers to ensure that macros are being replaced correctly. SendJim typically provides a preview function that lets you see how the final mailer will look with the macros replaced by actual recipient data from your "My Addresses" section.

  • The effectiveness of macros relies on the accuracy of the data you have. Regularly update and clean your contact database to avoid errors and ensure that your personalization is accurate.
